Week 2

It has been busy week! I spent a lot of time out of the lab this week. Monday we had the NSF site visit, Wednesday we started our class, and Thursday we went downtown for a tour of OHSU along with attending a forum
As far as lab work/progress goes, I’ve started electrochemically characterizing the biogenic manganese dioxide on the potentiostat. I’ve also started measuring the kinetics of synthetic manganese dioxide and di ,tri, and tetra sulfonic dyes. Jim also introduced me to the sun simulator which is basically a giant light bulb that is bight enough to warrant goggles when working around it! Don’t stick your hand under it for too long or you might get a really awkward sunburn.
My goals for next week are to start characterizing the kinetics of caffeine and manganese dioxide along with surface area scanning of manganese dioxide.
