Week 3.
7 July 16
There was no work on Monday because of the holiday. Tuesday and Wednesday my mentor was gone to the field study sites. I had time to start working on a literature review, as well as apply to the SACNAS conference. This week and into next week, Stuart and I will be working on constructing a nepholemeter, similar to Walsby (1973), that will be able to measure gas vacuolation, turgor pressure, and the strength of gas vacuoles. This instrument will allow us to see any effects that BMAA has on gas vesicle buoyancy. Tomorrow I will be accompanying Stuart and Claudia to the field site to collect samples. I am excited to see what this entails!
