Week 5- Calm And Quiet........

This week was slow one. I succeeded in fixing the experiment which I mentioned last week and it only took me three trials and a new secondary stock solution. I have only been using the cuvettes lately because I wanted to see low of a concentration could be measured. I also started using Instant Ocean so see if it gave me a similar concentration to distilled water. My lab was very active up until Wednesday because they were preparing for the cruises. Now, it is so quiet; there is actually walking space.

I didn’t participate in a lot of events this week. On Monday, we went on a "short hike" through Forest Park. The next time I hear them say hike through park; I will know better. A park here and a park back home are 2 very different things. I thought short slow walk to a bench and relax; not hike to the bench the hike back. I have learnt my lesson. On Thursday evening, The Lakes Crew (minus Julia because she was on the cruise) went to The Wailers concert at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland. It was so much fun!!!! On Friday, We had another brown bag discussion with Valerie Palmer from OHSU. She spoke to us about her life from South Africa to the US. I found her story very touching and inspirational. She helped me remember that it is an honor to be a minority, female in the Science field. I stayed home for the whole weekend doing absolutely nothing. It was wonderful!!!!! But, I don’t think that I want to do it again; I came to Oregon to have fun not relax. So bring on the fun…….
