Research Interest

I am interested predominantly in the physiology and ecology of phytoplankton and their adaptation to different marine environments. My past work has focused on how chemical signals produced by phytoplankton, particularly oxylipin compounds produced by diatoms, influence the composition and fitness of a community. My current research examines how physical and chemical gradients influence the distribution, abundance and activity of phytoplankton communities. My long-term goal is to determine the selective forces and mechanisms that shape patterns of community structure and function in the oceans.
