Today's Ocean

The Today's Ocean box on the top right corner of the CMOP web page is a simple illustration of current capabilities to bring information on coastal margin conditions to the public in near real-time.

In this particular case, the information is coming from sensors in the Columbia River estuary. Major existing observing systems in the Pacific Northwest currently include (non-exhaustive list):

NANOOS, the Pacific Northwest regional association for the U.S. Integrated Ocean Observing Systems. See also NANOOS pilot, a regional data integration system managed by CMOP staff.

CORIE, an observation and prediction system for the Columbia River estuary and plume. CORIE is a CMOP resource.

OrCOOS, an emerging observation system for central Oregon.

PISCO, a study of coastal ecosystem dynamics from local scales to the scale of the California Current System
