Topic:
Macronutrients and Iron in U.S. Coastal Upwelling Regimes - Along with Insight into the Columbia River Plume
Abstract
The lecture provided examples of the role of the micronutrient iron, together with the macronutrients nitrate, phosphate and silicic acid in coastal upwelling regimes along the West Coast of the U.S. Dr. Bruland then provided insight into processes influencing macronutrients and dissolved iron in the near-field Columbia River plume and how the chemistry of the plume can vary markedly with season and oceanographic conditions. The CORIE time-series stations within the estuary provide a record of plume conditions. The Columbia River plume can be an important extra source of macronutrients and dissolved iron to the coastal waters off Oregon and Washington.
