Overview—Undergraduate Research Opportunities at CMOP
Research opportunities for undergraduate students are available with CMOP through the National Science Foundation (NSF)'s Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. While the focus at CMOP is on intensive summer internships, school-year internships may also be available. CMOP internships are located in Beaverton, Oregon, at the OGI School of Science & Engineering at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU).

Paid undergraduate summer internships in Environmental Information Technology (EIT) and Environmental and Biomolecular Systems (EBS) are offered. Interns engage in leading-edge research on observation, understanding and prediction of coastal margins. These internships provide hands-on experience which combines interdisciplinary academic research and skills from computer science, microbiology, and oceanography.

CMOP studies coastal margins (watersheds, estuaries, plumes, the ocean continental shelf), using developing technology and an interdisciplinary approach to enable a comprehensive understanding of river-to-ocean ecosystems.

CMOP is a collaborative effort between several academic and industry partners, including Oregon Health & Science University, Oregon State University, and University of Washington. CMOP is funded through an NSF grant and is one of 17 active Science and Technology Centers in the United States and the only one focused on coastal margins. The other NSF Science and Technology Centers also offer other undergraduate research opportunities.
