Computer simulations are being used to explore hypotheses for the generation of M. rubra blooms in hte Columbia River estuary. This release of 2000 particles on July 1st 2009, is illustrative of a set of simulations being conducted to study the ability of swimming strategies and cell multiplication to counter fast flushing to the ocean.
