1st Week: Getting a feel for what we do in Astoria

This first week I had to juggle finals and working with the people here in Astoria. Fortunately I was able to work Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

My fist day, I spent the morning finding boots that fit and working on an online boater's safety course. I hardly got comfortable in the office, when Michael (the boss man), Katie (my mentor), and I went off to SATURN-01 to clean it. Recent construction on the bridge allowed us to stop in the consruction zone and climb over the side of the bridge to access the instrument. This was much faster than going by boat which is what they normally have to do.After we finished cleaning, Michael and I went to fix a plumbing problem at SATURN-03.

That was the first day, and from what I understand, that is pretty much how it's going to go for the rest of the summer. Office work consistently interrupted by field work. Sometimes I think is is the other way around though.

I use the word "we" very loosely in those stories because in actuality, it was mostly them and I just watched. However, I have become more involved since then.

I think I'm going to enjoy working with Michael, Katie, and Greta ( the other lady who works here) very much.

On a side note, I just passed by boater's class.
