Week 3

This has been a busy yet very productive week. Monday was spent amplifying the pseudo-nitzschia PCR samples from last week using. On tuesday Tyler and I ran the samples on a gel. I also attended a lab meeting with Holly, Jon, Mariya, and Tyler where the project goals were discussed. Many of my questions in regard to the project itself were answered and it was relieving to hear that the direction of the final paper is still undetermined. I was just glad to hear that since the overall direction of the project was what I had been previously most confused about. I also attended the department round-table and had to share what I have been working on  due to my birthday falling in an even month. I also spent time discussing with Jon, Tyler, and Brandon the microarray software that I would be using.

Wednesday and Thursday was spent extracting samples from the June and September 2008 cruises. While all of the June samples were completed the September samples will have to wait until nest week. Friday was the field trip to Multnomah falls and the Bonneville dam. I ended up enjoying the dam tour a lot more than expected since I was able to learn about potential careers that I could pursue in the future.
