Week 3 - river intern

Another busy week has passed us by in Astoria. We’ve been updating, cleaning, and fixing stations out on the river every day. On Monday we headed out to Desdemona Sands Light to replace the solar controller and battery. Then on Tuesday we headed out on an early dive at Jetty A where we replaced the old seabed CT with a new one. (I think the old one looked pretty cool with all its barnacles.) Wednesday saw us back at Desdemona trying to figure out why the radio wasn’t reporting. We also had to go back to Jetty A to finish setting up the CT. We were supposed to dive out at Pt. Adams on Thursday, but that was cancelled because of instrument problems. Instead we went out to Mott Basin to clean the instruments there. Friday has been no less exciting as the northern station underneath the Astoria Meglar Bridge decided to get clogged with sediment. (Things always break on Friday here apparently). ^__^

Things with my project are progressing nicely. I’ve finally learned enough about the PostgreSQL 8.2 program to use it to connect with the CMOP database. The next step should be figuring out how to update and add data about the SATURN and CORIE stations to it easily and efficiently. That is going to be a bit tricky, but I’ve got tons of resources to look to if I get lost.
