WEEK Four - RNA BBQ

Last week was the fourth of July weekend, so we had Friday off and I went to a barbecue at Chantel's family's house where they made amazing food. I also went to the blues festival in Portland on Thursday and Saturday, which was a lot of fun.

I spent Monday and Thursday searching databases for ribosomal DNA sequences in order to eventually create probes. I had a few set backs (problems downloading the programs and such) so I didn't get very far with that project. On Wednesday all of the interns gave presentations of our data so far. It was pretty successful I thought. I spent much of Tuesday generating graphs and practicing what I should say about them. I presented two graphs of the RNA content (ug/L) vs sampling point- one graph from June of 2008 (my results) and one graph from August of 2007 (Mariya's results). It was very interesting to learn about everyone else's projects and progress, and it was good practice for me to public speak. I hope that we do it again, so that I get more practice at presenting materials and speaking in front of a crowd.
