Going east after extractions

This week was a short one for me in Beaverton. I had free reign to the PCR machine since many of the graduate students were out on the research cruise in Newport, OR to collect samples. I was able to run ITS and 28S PCR program. This was very nice since the 28S PCR program runs 35 cycles totaling 4 hour and 30 min program!

In additionPete and I dug through the -80°C freezers to find the sterivex filters for certain samples in the Columbia River estuary. After searching all morning and letting the feeling get back in my fingers, I finally was able to start with the extractions.

Our Brown Bag meeting was with Dr. Eric Shulenberger. He gave a very entertaining presentation on writing grant proposals. The presentation was very informative and I will definitely be holding on to the powerpoint presentation for future reference.

Currently I am in North Carolina for the weekend for a leadership conference. NC is the farthest east I have traveled, so I leave you with pictures of the University of North Carolina campus.
