Week 4.

last week at the Ilwako field site, a dark , thick, liquid matrix was found seeping through the ground. We plan to run IR spectra analysis to determine the identity of the unknown substance. throughout the week, I continued to work on the literature review. New articles about chromatic adaptation and irreversible migration were obtained. Surprisingly, I found out this week that people consume cyanobacteria as a supplement, known as spirulina. To me, this sounds completely ridiculous and unhealthy since spirulina is essentially the same cyanobacteria I am studying that is known for producing neurotoxins. I continued to work on the BMAA detection protocol. The process is long and time consuming. I  am hoping to get the samples complete today so I learn how to do the HPLC-MS/MS analysis.
