Simple But Still Sweeeeet!!!

Success!!! Finally, my one of my lab methods worked. It happens to be the same one that I briefly mentioned in my previous blog but slightly alter. I worked with a spectrophotometer and compared the results when I measured the sample in a 2cm cuvette and a 200cm liquid waveguide capillary cell. The capillary cell won! It permitted more absorption to take place by allowing the sample to pass along the light source for a greater length. I presented these results in graph form on Wednesday to the other interns and the mentors so that they could critique my graph skills. On Thursday I tried another method that also failed miserably, but I have hope that trial two should show better results (or trial 3, 4, 7).

In the way of activities, Thursday through Sunday was parked. On Thursday, I attended my first Blues festival. It was wonderful!! The performances were awesome. I also ate elephant ears; which was such a weird name for fired dough and sugar (to me at least). On Friday, 4th of July, the Lakes Crew (L.C.) went to Chantel’s aunt’s house for a barbeque and fireworks. That was the first time that I got to play with sparklers. I felt like such a little child, but it was fun so I embraced the childishness. We (L.C.) returned to the festival on Saturday with Nirzwan (I had to return for more elephant ears). He first took us on a tour to and through Portland where I saw some very interesting sites, stores and raccoons!! Sunday ended my fun-filled weekend with a trip to the movies.

Though this week had no major highlights like snow or salmon; it had several small ones which totally make up for it.
