Week 8: Too Much Data to Absorb

Like the last one, this posting is delayed because maintenance to the CMOP servers kept the website down the past week. Week eight was exciting because a lot of results were produced, but it was a lot of work. I worked entirely on the neighboring lab’s UV vis, since ours is broken and won’t be fixed before I leave. This has turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as this alternate UV vis is faster and easier to use.

With just two weeks left, I have a good idea of what I’ll be able to accomplish the rest of the summer, and what will be left undone. Fortunately I will have time to get around to everything I expected to, including testing four different probes with four different iron suspensions each. Testing absorbance of the overnight samples in the morning, and making new samples at the end of the day, I’ve fallen into a routine that has allowed me an hour or two in the middle of the day to keep up with managing and plotting my data. This means that I’ll be able to keep experimenting right on through next week, since making my poster will be relatively quick.
